The music press are sometimes rather far up their own bottoms. For me Queen were fun and frivolous at a time when the 70's had become rather too serious. They also had muscle and boy could they let it rip. I don't think we shall ever see the like of Freddie Mercury ever again.

Now they would have been a sight for sore eyes at the Queens (the other one)celebration!!Russell CJ Duffyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00519621428036481426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9757991.post-71142491117068360072012-06-06T19:11:15.753-03:002012-06-06T19:11:15.753-03:00Not taken seriously by the music press (probably b...Not taken seriously by the music press (probably because they didn't know what to make of them) but adored by the public who bought 300 million of their records - rather more than Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.Perfect Virgohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17842802482293784692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9757991.post-14049241860093572562012-06-06T18:15:25.578-03:002012-06-06T18:15:25.578-03:00It is and always has been the remit of the muso (p...It is and always has been the remit of the muso (people like me I guess) to wax lyrical about this band, that album, this singer, that song. Queen were never a aprt of any scene. They somehow stood apart from all that. They were never cool, NME cool anyway, in the way Blondie of The Beatles were BUT, and what a but, their art was in their live act. They, and Freddie for sure, ruled supreme. My bamd was the Who but even they, when it came to Band Aid, fell into second place. Led Zepplin who outsold Queen and who were THE band of the 70]s could not compete. I shall never forget how the ultimate showman held, as you say, that audience in the palm of his hand. We will never see the like again I fear.
