Dibden Bay from Mayflower Park

Sunlight filters briefly through low cloud over Southampton Water. Once ear-marked as the intended site for a new deep-water container port, the fate of this stretch has thankfully been reprieved. Cranes and shipping containers would have wrecked the skyline and dominated the view.

The scene upstream to the right is already a confusion of import and export activity. A giant container ship from Holland has just slid out of shot as it noses towards the docks. Lorries are already waiting to whisk the cargo to depots near and far.

I see this image but I am thinking about the lines of an unconnected new poem. A new first verse is forming in my mind.
